Reconstruction of women’s center in Portsmouth

Range Developments – an award-winning developer of ultra luxury resorts in the Caribbean – is pleased to confirm its support for there construction of a women’s center in Portsmouth.

The North District Progressive Women’s Club (NDPWC) was established in 1979 and offers training to adolescent mothers and women in life skills, academic attainment and other key areas such as leadership and entrepreneurship. The club also provides an avenue where women can voice their opinions and resolve issues affecting them.

The Center was damaged by Hurricane Maria and as a result, became unfit for use by the community. The reconstruction work will enable the Center to open once again and resume classes such as sewing, computer literacy and other subjects which will help women from all walks of life.

The project has been undertaken in partnership with M/V Pacific Hope – a ship that is dedicated to supporting the local community through provision of medical care and construction services via its dedicated volunteers.

Verlanda Bruney, President of the NDPWC said:

I am very pleased with the work carried out by the team and wish to thank them immensely for their contribution of materials and manpower. The club plays a significant role in providing skills toits members and we are very much looking forward to resuming activities once the work has been completed.”

Kamal Shehada, Development Directorat Range Developments said:

The NDPWC has been serving the community of Dominica for nearly 40 years and restoring operations at the Center will enable more women to benefit from the facilities and training on offer. We are pleased to have partnered again with M/V Pacific Hope to reconstruct the roof but we are now calling for volunteers from the community to participate in cleaning and painting the interior of the Center.”
